More than the trail Oct 29, 2000
By Elisabeth You don't have to just hike the Appalacian trail if you visit the Smokey Mountain National Park....and this book proves it. Packed with information about the parks and it's trails and non-trail hiking, it's a good book to pack for that vacation you are taking to the area. For day hikes, overnight hikes, or thru hikes of the area, this is a good resource.

Hiking Guide Feb 22, 2010
By Maxwell Hamre This book is great for anyone visiting or living nearby the smoky mountains. With one hundred trails detailed in the book it has most every trail you have heard of. Each section covers regions of the park and their popular trails. Each of the trails has a little history, trail description, elevation, directions, etc. I bought this book after researching all the other books on these mountains. This one I found to be the most informative if you are looking for a book that guides you along most of the trails in the park. Not only does the book walk you through the trail, it gives you a brief history which is really interesting. Definitely a bargain of a book with what it packs in the pages.
Great for our weekend Away Apr 17, 2012
By kbpaulie We spent a weekend in the Smokies and this book was great. It had the hikes we were looking for and details on what to look for along the way. I'd say the maps aren't great trail maps, but are good for knowing where to park your car. Used this book after ditched another book that had too little info. Would love to see this broken into a list of day hikes and overnight hikes.
Excellent Nov 27, 2010
By Justin Maynard Any book by Russ is great and this is no disappointment. If you wanna know a lot of trails in the area then this is a great start.
too much description, not enough clear maps Oct 25, 2010
By uwewas I miss a simple map with all the hikes marked. You always have to search the one you need out of 24 detail maps. And exept for the cover no page is in colour. Don't get me wrong - the hikes in the book are nice ones. But I like it simple - with better coloured maps and just basic information about the hikes. An approx. duration of the hikes would be helpful, too.
