This is the third edition of Cicerone's guide to the Coast to Coast walk popularised by Wainwright. The hike across northern England from St. Bee's Head in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay on Yorkshire's east coast is now one of the most popular long-distance hikes in Britain. At 178 miles (300km) long, the trail can be easily walked within a two-week holiday period. The route is based on permitted rights of way and minimises the amount of road walking. The guide includes an accommodation listing.
The guide is in three sections. The first gives the route description, from west to east, annotated as appropriate with notes of geological, historical, industrial, sociological and natural history interest. The second section gives the route description only in an east to west direction, cross-referenced to the points of interest. The final section comprises a description of variant routes and lists useful addresses.

This is a perfect book for ANYONE considering this trek. It has it all, including contact numbers and addresses.

2Coast to Coast Guide Book  Oct 12, 2011 By David E. Kidney "Dave K"
I have used this guidebook for the entire C2C walk. It is not very good. The author offers lots of commentary on sights along the way. However what are needed is more detailed descriptions of the paths etc. Some of the descriptions of the walk are very hard to follow on the maps in the book as well as a real map. I would not recommend this book

5good pocket guide book  Jan 21, 2010 By Karen F. Daniels "Compass Rose"
The cover of the book is waterproof and it is a handy size to take with you on the coast to coast walk. The instruction seem good but are a bit dry, but there are great photos included. The maps are harder to follow than some of the other guide books with hand drawn maps, but we will be taking at least one other book with us and will compare instructions and maps on each leg of the walk. This guide does give nice bits of history for each area, but no information on where to stay or eat. But overall it is a good guide to have on the walk.

4Coast to Coast Walk  Feb 26, 2009 By Sugathan Manoj
I ordered this book and the Alfred Wainwright version of Coast to Coast from Amazon.

This book is simple to understand. Nice pictures and useful maps. This will be an essential book for anyone doing C2C walk.

The plastic cover on the book may come in handy in tough weather.

Having said that, I haven't yet done the C2C walk; so I don't know how accurate this is. I will write in detail once I do my walk.

2Not enough  Aug 20, 2008 By Richard J. Ryan "RickJ"
I plan on doing the C2C in May of 2009. I bought this book first, and I am not confident in it. The maps are weak, and the descriptions are vague, and boring to read/follow. I bought Wainwrights pictorial guide, and I would rather travel with that. I am also looking at Stedman's latest guide.
