For the open-road adventurer or the armchair tourist, Backroads of Arizona is the ideal guide to the state where antelope still roam, cowboys still ride the range, and mail is still delivered by mule train. Jim Hinckley's informative text and Kerrick James' brilliant color photography reveal the Grand Canyon State as more than just desert and towering saguaros: It is a powerful land of compelling variety where a mere sixty-mile drive can transport you from scorching sands to dense evergreen stands where deer and elk roam. Continuing on Voyageur Press’ successful travel series, Backroads of Arizona takes you on more than twenty trips to the state’s most notable and underappreciated sites. The book covers Arizona’s plethora of awe-inspiring natural areas and national parks as well as its many historic sites, including Native American Pueblos and ancient ruins, ghost towns and vestiges of the Old West, and more. It is a fitting celebration of one of the most scenic states in the country. | | | |

Wow! Arizona has breathtaking scenery Jan 03, 2008
By Dustin M. Dudley This book does a very good job of showing you Arizona from one end of the state to the other. It is nicely divided into sections of the state to help you find many good sites in each section of the state you may be traveling in. It has some of the most amazing color pictures in it. It also has some pretty good descriptions of these places too. The maps in the book are a little crude, but not that important anyway. You can find about all of these places on a highway map. I noticed a few places in this book that you have a hard time finding much information on from other sources. Like the most remote village in the lower 48, Supai (& Havasupai Falls) and many old and off the beaten path little towns with lots of history still standing (i.e. Cochise). The book also does a good job of showing you picture and giving you stories from the past. I would highly recommend this book for anyone traveling to Arizona, or even for those who want a nice coffee table book due to the wonderful pictures.

By Jennifer S. Paulson Good book with great pictures, only downfall is that it doesn't cover much about Southeastern Arizona.....mainly western and northern.

Backroad of Arizona Aug 25, 2011
By LisaSHarper Very good book if you are a first-time visitor to Arizona (like me). Great pictures! However, my whole order was damaged when it arrived. Amazon - I've emailed pictures of the damaged box and books, but I haven't received a response. I'm returning 3 of the 4 books I ordered and would you to replace them. It's past your 30-day requirement, but you are the one not responding to emails. I think you need a 1-800 number to resolve these kinds of problems.
