·75 dog-suitable trails throughout the state-many accessible from urban areas
·How to keep your dog safe, healthy, and hydrated in Arizona's arid climate
·What to pack for your pooch: the Ten Canine Essentials and the doggy first aid kit

Renée Guillory and her canine companions, Artemis and Sparky, have hiked more than 700 miles together in Arizona. Now they share their favorite trails, presented through dog-centric eyes. On most trails, you'll encounter few people to dodge. Most hikes offer shade, if not water, to help keep your dog cool in extreme Arizona conditions. They emphasize terrain that's easy on the paws and give advance warning, trail by trail, on canine hazards to watch for. There are also tips on dealing with canine emergencies and for hiking with minimum dog-impact on the environment.

Ranging from short day hikes to extended backpacking trips, many trails included are clustered around urban areas including Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff, Sedona/Prescott, and other communities in Mogollon Rim country. There are hikes as far-flung as the Mexican border and in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona.

4Good layout  Feb 10, 2007 By G. Kopp
We have a Toy Poodle and a Ratt Terrier that love to go everywhere with us. The title: Best hikes with dogs:Arizona sounded like a must have book, and I haven't been displeased, the book appears to be pretty acurate on park admission fees, has good advice on hiking with dogs, and I find the "Hike Summary Table" not only very handy and useful, but an almost necessary piece of information, it tells you things like; easy on paws, 4 miles or less, unleashed okay, forested trail for much of the hike, good for senior dogs, best for well coordinated dogs, etc.
The only negative for the book is that it doesn't have very many Dog Hikes in the West Valley where we are located. Maybe that'll be in the next book.

5Best Hikes With Dogs: Arizona  Apr 24, 2010 By E. martinez
Very insightful, included maps which were very helpful. described the terrain and included elevations to determine how hard the hikes were. Great suggestions all around great guide!

5helpful and accurate  Sep 05, 2010 By memoir lover
i bought this book a while ago, and took one of the hikes this morning, with my 2 dogs. the directions and terrain descriptions were spot-on. we hiked for 6 miles (round trip) along a river bank the whole way, and in the shade for the majority of the hike, so it was a great experience for me and my dogs. now that i know i can trust the author's judgment, i'll be taking more of the hikes she names in her book.

1Review of Kindle Sample of this book  Mar 05, 2009 By Gail
This may be a good and useful book but from the sample downloaded to the kindle it does not appear that any thought was taken to make it useable on the Kindle. The graphs and maps are miniscule and cannot be enlarged (as far as I can tell). There are some photos in the sample which may have been interesting if they were enlarged to fill the entire screen; as it is they are too small. Sections on 'how' to hike with your dog are included but NOT one section about an actual hiking route is available in the sample. Considering that the charts and maps are too small to read and that there's no way to tell how each individual trail is written up it appears that there is no way to tell if the 'kindle edition' of this book would have any use as a guide to hiking trails for dogs.

5Entertaining and informative  Feb 24, 2006 By David Edward Ludd
This is a great read. I used to live in Arizona and often wish I could return. I knew Renee and Sparky, though I've never met Artemis. Hey Renee, it's David. If you ever read this, look me up. I'm living in Madison, Wisconsin these days.
