1Don't waste your money!  Mar 04, 2006 By Photomurage "GrandpaG"
This book is a real disappointment. Basically it mimicks public information that is readily available on-line and the restaurant recommendations are really suspect since I know of one that no longer exists and another that is dirty at best. I was expecting some seasoned "insider" info on things to do and see and eat. I wish I had my $$$ back to pay for the gas for my next day trip!!

4Good guide  Jan 25, 2010 By Christian Lenoir
If you've got little time to explore, this guide will get you to know the Houston vicinity covering the main attractions. It is more text than pictures and it is a good book and has outing options for every taste, including places to eat, visit, etc. I have found it somewhat more practical (or at least cheaper) to reasearch on internet and google maps, but this is alltogether a good guide, and is ordered in a firendly way separating each trip by cardinal points (i.e.: trips to the Southeast, Northeast, etc). I have used it quite a bit and found it useful. I also haven't found many others alike so I guess if you got to it, it's down the line of what you're looking for. To me it's a 4 -star.

5Must-have for all Houstonians  Sep 22, 2009 By Michael Plaks
I had used a very old edition for years, planning family weekend trips that would please kids and grandparents. Of particular value are descriptions of scenic back roads that you would not find on your own. Of course, info on attractions and restaurants gest old quickly, so I bought this new edition. It has roughly double the information the old one had, and boy, did I miss some great new places with my old edition! Well, at least I now have a reason to go back there and try new fun and new food. Don't leave for weekend trips without this one, especially if you take along kids. Insider info like friendliness of a restaurant or how clean is the camping area - you won't find it in AAA guides or glossy tourist brochures. Also little-known B&Bs, time- and money-saving tips, even warnings about seasonally congested roads. Wow.

4useful  Apr 21, 2008 By Stephan Elser
very useful, nicely written, good information with ideas to egt you out of your normal ways without being too crazy. Get it (and watch for the new edition)

4Great for Newcomers  Mar 21, 2007 By S. Forsgren
As a newcomer to Houston, I thought this book was a great introduction to all the neat things to do in the area. Rather than spend time looking it all up on the internet, I have a great guide right in front of me. I like it!
