Usually ships in 1 business days | | | | | | Garmin's nüvi 265WT improves upon its 200-series predecessors by adding free real-time traffic updates from Navteq (for the life of the device) as well as Bluetooth connectivity to your cell phone. Other significant improvements in the 2x5 series include a predictive technology that provides faster satellite lock, a redesigned screen with more information, terrain maps, and an exciting new photo navigation feature. The 265WT provides complete maps for North America and the handy Text-to-Speech feature, so you get turn-by-turn spoken directions with the real names of streets (e.g. "turn left in 50 feet at Nebraska Way", rather than merely "turn left in 50 feet"). The nüvi 2x5 models all sport the slim design that Garmin introduced with the 200-series last year, so they all fit comfortably in your pocket or purse, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that makes them convenient for navigation by car or foot. All of the models include useful travel tools like a JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more. The 265WT also offers a wide 4.3-inch (diagonal) screen that displays 70% more of the road around you. Important Product Information: This device features a "screen lock" feature. This is a standard feature on all nüvi 2x5 and 7x5 Garmin units. If you slide the "Power" key to the right, it will lock the screen and prevent any accidental touches. Once the screen lock feature is engaged, the screen will go black/gray after about 15 seconds to save power on the device. To unlock the screen, just slide the "Power" key to the center position. This feature is really targeted for "Pedestrian" mode so that a user can put the device in his or her pocket/purse and quickly unlock the screen instead of powering on/off continuously. For more information, see page 5 of the product manual.
Integrated Traffic Receiver Steer clear of traffic with an integrated GTM 20 FM traffic receiver designed to receive alerts about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. No subscriptions or additional hardware needed. Just open the box, turn it on, and get instant access to traffic information--the traffic updates are free for the life of the device. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nüvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time. Watch informational video In most areas, the traffic broadcasts are continuous--there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions. Hands-Free Calling In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. WIth Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker, you can match your nüvi to any Bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log. Learn More One of Garmin's key product philosophies is to make extremely complex technology easy to use for anyone right out of the box, and perhaps nowhere is that better exemplified than in the user interface for Garmin's portable navigation devices. Garmin's interface is a key to their success part of what makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with turn-by-turn voice directions, 2-D or 3-D maps and smooth map updates as you navigate. This year, Garmin has redesigned its interface to include much more useful information.

| Your GPS device locks onto transmissions from a dedicated network of Satellites in order to determine its position. Until the device gets a "lock" on three satellites, it can't effectively navigate, so decreasing the time it takes for your device to get "satellite lock" is always a goal of GPS manufacturers. With Garmin's new HotFix technology, your Garmin GPS remembers the position of all satellites it is tracking when you turn it off, and calculates their movements in order to predict where they should be the next time you turn it on. This gives the device an idea of where it should look for satellites, and dramatically decreases the time it takes for your Garmin to get its position and start navigating. HotFix can predict satellite positions for up to 3 days after the device was last turned off. Using Garmin’s unique Web site — Garmin Connect Photos — users can choose from millions of geo-located photos provided by Google’s Panoramio photo sharing community and download them to the nüvi for a richer navigation experience using pictures as a guide.

Best Product I have ever pruchased!!! Mar 10, 2010 I absolutely love this machine. I purchased this for a trip with my dad going to places I had never been before and we easily found every hotel and/or place we wanted to see or go to. I have also used my nuvi around my town (Metro Atlanta) and have found new ways to get places that I didn't know about before. I have lived in this area for 18 years. We also used this last weekend to go to southeast Georgia and we were averted away from backed up traffic twice. The second time my husband wasn't going to listen to "Constance" (my nuvi) but received a reprieve when we ended up in the soup and were just able to get off and away from the trouble. My husband said he would never doubt Constance again. Plus I can easily answer my phone hands free without having to scramble and look for it while driving. "THIS IS GREAT!!!!!"

Questionable ethics on the part of Garmin Mar 10, 2010 Beware. When I purchased the 255WT, it did not come with a USB-to-USBmini cord, so I tried one that I got with a USB external disk drive. Neither my Mac nor my friend's PC would recognized the unit, so I couldn't register it. I sought assistance from the techs at a nearby Best Buy, and they discovered that it was the USB connection, whereupon they wanted to sell me a $20 USB cable; they also told me that most camera and disk drive USB cables would not work properly. If you buy one of these, be prepared to purchase a special cable with which to connect it, otherwise you might not be able to register it, which is required in order to get your firmware and maps updated. You won't get all you pay for unless you buy more stuff. That seems a bit unethical to me.
GREAT SYSTEM Mar 10, 2010 This is a great unit. The only drawback to the whole experience is that it took about six hours to do the one free map download. Other than that it is wonderful. This is our first GPS and we will absolutely get a Garmin again. Everything is so user friendly. We love it !!!!
Ok but not what i thought Mar 08, 2010 This GPS Is good but i have a problem with the routing is will direct me on roads that are not there and out of the way... The avoid gravil roads seting does not reconise the gravil roads i guess. other than that its OK.
Janky GPS, no Traffic as Advertised, Mar 07, 2010 I'm in the market for a new GPS to replace my old Navigon 2200 GPS. Tried several models and purchased this one during one of Amazon's many GPS sales. I found this GPS a bit annoying to use. First I purchased the WT model which claims to include the Traffic, but it actually doesn't. It uses MSN Direct as it's traffic monitor but it never explains how to actually activate it, even though it constantly prompts you to everytime the unit starts up. I'm assuming I have to do it by plugging the unit into my PC. But the free MSN traffic only lasts 6 months, after that you have to pay.
I tried out the free trial of the Safety Camera subscription. This doesn't seem to work well at all, it was very random on the safety notices - when I looked around I didn't see a single Safety camera. I drove around the beltway for a few days then on the fourth day all of a sudden there's a safety camera warning every mile on the beltway. There are no Safety cameras on the Beltway, so where it was pulling this data from, I don't know.
It has a really good POI database, I used it to find eating places around my new office location and it worked flawlessly.
This unit fails at it's most basic function which is giving directions. It's excellent once it catches on and calculates, but a lot of times when you are leaving an Office Building, or Shopping Parking lot, it refuses to navigate it's way out of such areas. All it'll say is Go to X Street, or X Highway with no directions on how to actually get to X Highway. It doesn't tell you which way to turn or anything, sometimes the road you need to be on after leaving a Parking lot is 2 or 3 blocks away. It was annoying beyond belief. Some days the Voice Direction worked, others, it didn't. Sometimes the refresh is a few seconds slow and the directions will lag by a few seconds - so if you have to make a sudden turn this may cause an issue.
I like the favorites function, but I don't like clicking 3 times just to get to it.
The positives of the unit are, it has a pretty interface with big colorful icons, the POI db is really good, very accurate once it actually starts navigating, the fonts are all nice and big. I also really liked the holder, it felt solid and gave enough room where you can bend it in just about any direction. Unlike Tom Tom's which was so rigid it broke the minute I tried to move it.
I also hate feeling nickel and dimed, when you plug the GPS into your computer and go to the Garmin store, there are a bunch of really cool optional features for this unit but everything costs $80 or more. So if I wanted things like traffic, speed cameras, special maps, etc... It'd cost me another $200 or $300. Not cool.
I ended up returning the unit. The GPS hunt goes on...
