Japan is an intriguing country of contrasts that has fascinated visitors for centuries. This compelling photographic essay explores the beauty of this modern nation that is still steeped in ancient traditions. From country roads to towering skyscrapers, from the zen-like tranquility of rock gardens to the frenzy of life in the cities, from ancient temples and palaces to modern neon-lit shopping centers, Journey Through Japan is a superb study of "The Land of the Rising Sun."

5Ichiban!  Nov 27, 2008 By http://heatherandkevininutsunomiyajp.blogspot.com/
My husband and I are currently living in Japan as Expats and have this book. It is fabulous/ number one ( Ichiban )!!!!!
We have traveled to almost all of the places in the book and actually live in Tochigi prefecture, Nikko is less than a 1/2 hr from our current home. We are now purchasing this book for other Expats as a going away gift. We highly reccomend it!

5A survey of high technology and urban development, side-by-side with primitive folk festivals and ancient landscapes  Sep 10, 2005 By Midwest Book Review
Hans Kruger's engagingly informative text is massively illustrated with more than 180 full color photographs illustrating diverse facets of the Japanese urban and rural landscapes, people, and artifacts in Journey Through Japan, a superbly written and presented travelogue of the diverse islands of the eastern coast of Asia that comprise the modern nation of Japan. Here presented for the armchair traveler is a survey of high technology and urban development, side-by-side with primitive folk festivals and ancient landscapes. Entertaining, informative, and thoroughly "reader friendly", Journey Through Japan truly lives up to its title and is especially recommended for community library collections.
