5Fantastic Organization  Aug 01, 2010 By Pickle Paul
Trust me, I'm a bit of an expert on these smaller, lighter guides that you actually can carry with you comfortably without looking like a tourist. I do a lot of travel for work. I am baffled why these Knopf guides aren't number 1 all the time! Most of the smaller guides including Michelin, Fodor (the inFocus series is better than the others), Insight, and and Berlitz don't really have an organization that helps you decide where to go and what to do there organized geographically (sometimes they have a small section that discusses a neighborhood, but it's not tied to the maps or anything like tha).

The other series talk about all the things to visit without really giving you an idea which ones are near each other and might be convenient to hit at the same time. The organization of these knopf guides is great. You start with a city overview by neighborhood/district, once you settle on the area of the city you're going to visit, there is a area map with clearly marked things to visit and places to eat IN THAT AREA. The area is all on a few fold-out pages that makes it easy to navigate and easy to figure out what to see next in your immediate area.

I don't know if I'm describing this well, but I used this series for Brussels and Montreal and they were fantastic. I'm going to buy Tokyo now. My adviceis if you can get one of this "MapGuides" go with that. Otherwise, maybe Fodor's little inFocus. It is not nearly as good as Knopf's, but better than the others. Hope this helps and I hope Knopf will make more of these as the selection is currently limited. If you are monitoring this Knopf, please make more of these.

Thanks and good luck to all travelers!

4not the most detailed map, but helpful in getting around.  Dec 17, 2009 By M. Kleban
This is an easy to carry map that can can keep you from looking like a tourist. While it's not the most detailed map it will get you to the places you want to see and has some good recommendations. I also recommend the one for paris and Munich.
