Oh how I adore these Streetwise maps! I can unfold them and RE-FOLD them with a minimum of fuss and no tearing... As compact as a regular map, laminated to withstand my coffee habits in the car, and quickly read while I'm wondering where I'm supposed to be going. They won't correct my wrong way tendencies but they'll definitely help!

I took this map on a backpacking trip in CA, it held up throughout being repeatedly stuffed into an overfilled pack and pulled out multiple times daily when we were on the road. I don't know how we would have survived without it!

"Streetwise California" is a plastic-coated folding map of the state of California, in a size designed to be easily portable and useable in the front seat of an automobile. The front side shows the entire state, with its major roads and cities, from the Oregon border to Tijuana, Mexico. A small inset map provides mileage and suggested driving times between major cities. There is also an index of cities and large towns.
The reverse side of the map has a series of insets of key locations: the LA freeway system and international airport, the city of Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay area, San Diego, and Sacramento. This folding map obviously doesn't have the detail of a multi-page state atlas or specialized city map. It is a great driving aid for planning to get from city to city along the major road network, while being durable enough to survive coffee spills; it is recommended for that.
 Sloppy errors Feb 16, 2012

After a quick review of the area of the map that I am most familiar with, I noted two sloppy errors. "Los Alamitos Race Track" is misspelled as "Los Alimitos Race Track" in the "PLACES OF INTEREST" box. Norwalk Boulevard is shown as going through to Imperial Highway going northbound when in fact Norwalk Boulevard breaks a few blocks before Imperial Highway.
For all I know these are the only two errors on the map, but given how quickly I found those errors, I am loathe to depend on this map to guide me in areas with which I'm unfamiliar.
If, however, it is a mostly accurate map, this, like other Streetwise maps, is a useful product.

This map was fun to hold along in case of emergencies but it turned out that it was not very useful. A quick question to a stranger avery few blocks was more helpful. However this map was great at giving the driver the overall idea of how his area is in relations to what's around him and how far he is from the water or from a particular neighborhood. It's like looking at a google map zoomed out showing you the general area but not very useful showing you where to drive since you won't be able to see the details.
