Likely to Be the Best Overall California Road Atlas Nov 25, 2008
By H. Nakayama This is likely to be the best overall road atlas available for California. I've used several editions of this atlas since the 1980s for finding my way around California. It includes both state-wide highway maps, regional maps, and selected street-level community maps, which seems to provide the right level of each for finding your way around such a large state in a handy and concise format. For getting around very large urban areas, such as LA, you still would need suppliment this atlas with more street level maps, which I usually print off from the internet ahead of time. So, there still is no substiture for planning ahead for road trips.

Thomas Guide California Road Atlas Jun 10, 2009
By Judith McKnight When I was planning my first trip to southern California, I thought it would be a good idea to get a hold of a road map. Little did I know that when I ordered the Thomas Guide I was purchasing the very best road map I had ever used. Everything I looked for was there, from crossing the border from Tijuana, to arriving in Santa Barbara, and 1000 miles of driving in between. This guide took a lot of stress out of driving on the California freeway and in and about large cities (San Diego, L.A.) and small towns (Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, La Jolla, Point Loma). If I ever recover from this trip and decide to travel again, I won't leave home without a Thomas Guide.

The Thomas Guide for San Francisco & Marine County Nov 25, 2008
By Jill M. I am a delivery person in San Francisco and drive all over the city. This book has been extremely helpful. The Cross Street Index is the best. I can figure out exactly where I have to go in no time. The maps are very detailed and easy to read. I highly recommend this map book!

Older Versions Were Better Jan 11, 2011
By M. Mcnamara A bit dissapointed with this latest version of the California map book. Colors were not as vivid making it harder to read. Of the few pages I relied on in the first few weeks of use I can say that the map detail is not as good as my older version. The all important page finder map (which is a quick reference overview map of all the pages in the book) is not located in the very front of the book (where it should be for easy and quick reference). Instead the first dozen pages are a silly sight seeing guide of a single Southern Californa route, and a "Let's Go To The Movies" thing that tells you where a handfull of movies were shot in California. I love using a paper road atlas when out venturing in my beloved Californa, and I used my original Thomas Brothers for many years till it finaly wore out. It is a real dissapointment to see that the new version is not a better one.

You can't visit California without this book Aug 02, 2010
By Onana This book is a must have for those visiting California. What I like about this book is that it is divided into 3 categories: the highway maps, the metro maps and the detailed city maps. It covers the entire state of California as well as major destinations in neighboring Nevada such as Las Vegas (which include a detailed city map). The detailed maps were great as they provided the exit/entry points for the freeways in the areas. The only drawback was that it needed to cover more detailed city maps. For example, we spent some time in downtown Santa Monica and it didn't provide a detailed map for that. This loses a star for that, but otherwise a very valuable book to have.
