FUN for kids and adults Jan 02, 2010
By Carol C.

I purchased this as a gift for my fourth-grade nephew, who was taking Missouri history in school. When I received it, I was so impressed -- beautiful photographs & illustrations, fun stores -- that I ordered another for a friend who recently moved to Missouri from California. The book was a big hit! My nephew's older brother informed me that he had checked this out of his school library several times and thought it was one of the coolest books ever.
This book is ideal for a kid of ten or eleven, but it is written at a level that would appeal to adults, as well. I grew up in Missouri and didn't know half of the stuff in this book. Not all of the anecdotes are particularly sophisticated and it might be a bit fluffy for a real Missouri history buff, but there are plenty of great anecdotes, colorful photographs and illustrations. it contains the kind of stories that will really stick with kids over the years -- ghosts, dogs, etc. Along with the content, the presentation is also nice -- the book is a bit oversized, with substantial paper and plenty of color and information, sure to stand up to years of use.
Overall, well worth the money!

Fabulous Jul 31, 2009
By R. Landsiedel What a find!! I have to put it down because I want it to last. Each story is better than the last. From looking at the bison walking over the cliff in the beginning of the book to the woman who has the hair museum to Ma Barker - each story is better than the last. I read one each night and no more than one so this book will last me. I hope he plans to write another one. I will be the 1st in line to buy it

A friend told me about this book so I bought it. How interesting! I just loved it! Makes a great gift or coffee table book. I was born and raised in Missouri and still live here and I never knew about most of the things in this book. If you are a true Missourian you will love this book.

By Bab234 I could not put this book down! If you are from Missouri you will appreciate the stories inside. There were many things I did not know even happened in Missouri until I picked up this book. It is wonderful for all ages. Great Christmas gift!!
