A decade later, his fiancée, Maryn, takes a trip to Australia to finally say goodbye to her airman who never came home. "Wind to Water" is a deeply absorbing love story. The first chapter grabs the reader's attention with an affecting account of a two-manned military aircraft that is tragically shot down over Iraq. The ensuing chapters focus on the pilot's brokenhearted fiancé, Maryn. Even after nine years, she is still struggling to say goodbye to the soldier she loved with all her heart. She knows that it's time to get on with her life, but in order to do that, she must first say goodbye to her past. She decides to do that by way of a vacation to Australia. As part of a group tour, Maryn meets Grant, a marine biologist from California. The two feel an instant liking to one another, but neither is sure how to proceed. What follows is a tender telling of how love can not only break a heart ... but it can also mend one as well.
The cover of "Wind to Water" incorporates several aspects of the story including a map of Australia, which takes center stage on the outside of the book as well within its pages. The beauty of Australia is so vividly described and incorporated into the scenes that it takes on a persona of its own.
Maryn and Grant's tale is sweetly romantic and sensitive, but told with utmost practicality. The author's engaging writing style is masterfully fluid and poetic, which results in a flawless delivery of the story. His setup submerses the reader in the setting, and his realistic characterization brings Maryn and Grant to life.
Although I believe that both male and female readers will enjoy "Wind to Water," Mr. Hamershock gives every female romance reader what she longs for most at the end of a fabulous love story--a deep, satisfying sigh and a burning desire for the leading man's phone number.

Fabulous!
A reader of at least two books a month, I'm glad I took a chance on this novel from a new author. Some passages made me laugh out loud; others made me think.
The tone reminded me of thoughtful romantic movies and comedies like "Love, Actually" and "When Harry Met Sally." It's not the cookie-cutter storyline I find in some established authors' annual releases.
I enjoyed Hamershock's ability to weave together light-hearted banter with serious, touching scenes--reminded me a bit of Nicholas Sparks... And the content was smart--I learned a little something about Australia and look forward to one day visiting some of the beautiful locations described.
I'd highly recommend this novel for men or women seeking an entertaining vacation read, a relaxing evening companion or for anyone looking for love.
I hope this won't be the author's last novel. "Wind to Water" is a gem.

From the skies over Iraq, to the rainforests of Australia, to the coast of California, David Hamershock's Wind to Water takes you on a romantic adventure, probing some of the deep questions about love and life. It is a pleasant, easy read with a touch of grace and a gentlemanly quality.
Hamershock's writing style is fluid, keeping you in page turning mode. His attention to detail has you pulling out a map or googling locations for future holidays! His prose is intelligent and thoughtful.
Wind to Water is a book for the thinking man and woman who want to relax and enjoy a love story of the most sincere kind.

It's not too often that I knowingly pick up a love story; in fact I did not know that Wind to Water had a romantic story line until after the first chapter. But once started, I could not put this book down. To this book, I say, "Bravo!!" Hamershock's ability to frame a setting, describe the thoughts of characters, and tell a very compelling and realistic story is a true talent. This book has something for every reader. The romantic theme of the book should not be a deterrent to men. Hamershock quite accurately depicts what goes through the minds of many men who know that they have "met the one" and do not want to screw it up. I am looking forward to Hamershock's next efforts!!

Wind to Water is an entertaining read from start to finish! The author has both knowledge and depth, but more importantly heart and soul. While reading, you feel you're in the story, a part of it. When it's over you have a certain confidence that real-world happily-ever-afters can and do happen...that soul-mates do exist and are found despite life's obstacles, you just need to believe..
